Woodrow Richard (Dick) Costello, oldest child of William Ralph and Margaret Elaine (Longinaker) Costello was born on April 17, 1945, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He died under hospice care in his home in Randolph, Iowa, shortly after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Dick attended elementary school in Randolph. A farm boy through and through, Dick enjoyed being a member of 4-H, showing cattle at the county fair and helping his dad with livestock. He also spent time outdoors hunting, trapping, and fishing. Dick graduated from Fremont-Mills High School in Tabor in 1962 and began his four-year enlistment in the Navy in 1965. He served as an aviation ordinanceman (AO) during the Viet Nam War aboard the USS Constellation in the Gulf of Tonkin. He was honorably discharged in 1969.

Dick married Rita Sue Kirchert of Tabor in 1972. They had three daughters: Jennifer Elaine, Lori Michelle, and Lisa Ann. They built a home on the east edge of Randolph where Dick farmed with his family, raising hogs and cattle and growing corn and soybeans. It was common to see Dick and his favorite bluetick coonhound hunting in the timbers around the family farm.

In 1992 Dick married Catherine Ann Adams of Omaha. He went to work for the American Meter plant in Nebraska City, retiring in April of 2012.

Collecting antique pocketknives was one of Dick's greatest passions. He often scoured flea markets, and later eBay, not just to find the one knife missing from his collection, but to find others that he could trade or resell for profit. In 2006 Dick and Cathy purchased a log cabin in Diamond City, Arkansas, where they enjoyed making new friends and spending time on Bull Shoals Lake.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter Jennifer, and brother-in-law Ronald McKinney.

He is survived by his wife Cathy; daughter Lori Costello of Vermillion, SD; daughter Lisa Costello of Farragut, IA; stepson Joey Chavez of Omaha, NE; stepdaughter Christina Campos of Albuquerque, NM; sister Sara McKinney of Bemidji, MN; sister Susan Costello of Randolph, IA, and friend Gary Murray of College Springs, IA; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his faithful dog Jessie.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the Randolph Methodist Church in Randolph, Iowa.  A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the Randolph Methodist Church in Randolph, Iowa.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.  Memorial donations will be used for the betterment of the Randolph Community.
