Wendell Bartles' Obituary
Wendell passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Chapel located at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials are being directed to the Wendell Bartles Memorial Fund.
Wendell Lawrence Bartles, son of Willis and Tressa (Aid) Bartles, was born on October 25, 1925 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 84 years.
Wendell lived in Shenandoah most of his life. He met Hazel Marie Turnbull and on October 20, 1945 they were united in marriage. They made their home in Shenandoah and were blessed with a set of twins, Ronnie Raye and Connie Faye.
Wendell worked at Mount Arbor Nurseries in Shenandoah for a few years. In 1950 he went to work at Dekalb Seeds Co. in Shenandoah. In 1962 they moved to Wheatridge, Colorado where they lived for the next 26 years. Wendell worked for Wilmore's Nurseries for a couple of years before going to work at the Colorado State School of Mines in Golden Colorado. He retired from the School in 1988. Upon retirement, Wendell and Hazel moved to Red Oak. Wendell kept busy in his shop, loving to build anything with wood and metal, a jack of all. He also greatly enjoyed any kind of yard work around the house. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and relatives.
Preceding Wendell in death were his parents, Willis and Tressa Bartles; loving wife of 60 years, Hazel Marie Bartles; sisters and brothers, Faye Sinclair, Darrell Bartles, Mae Hadden, Wilma Walker and Eldon Bartles.
Survivors include the twins, Ronnie Bartles and his wife Marsha of Red Oak, IA and Connie Faye Dalrymple and her husband Robert of Homestead, FL; four grandchildren, Jon Dalrymple, ZoeAnn Dalrymple, Kimberly Kay (Bartles) Merrick and husband Joshua, Stacey Marie (Bartles) Meckna and husband Thomas; nine great grandchildren, DeVonn Dalrymple and wife Heather, Megan and Tiffany Dalrymple, Cassidy Merrick, Emily Dalrymple, Ellie, Thomas and Parker Meckna; great-great granddaughter Aubrey Dalrymple; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
