Wayne Wendell Whitmore was born on March 14, 1920, the son of Wayne L. and Faye (Cheshire) Whitmore. He was the third of five sons. Wayne entered into eternal peace on Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2010 in Amarillo, Texas.

On April 21, 1951 Wayne was united in marriage to his best friend, Darlene Joyce Nelson. The couple was later blessed with the birth of three children; Janice, Wayne Leslie "W.L." , and Chad.

Wayne farmed the home place where he was born. He was dedicated to improving the land, and learning about and applying new ideas to farming. He also raised and fed cattle all of his life. At times he managed a large cow herd along with his farming and always had feeder cattle in the lots. Wayne was not afraid of hard work or a good challenge. These are values which he passed on to his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Darlene on April 7, 2009 and brothers Jack, Floyd and Keith.

Those left to honor his memory include his children Janice Noreen of Allenpark, Colorado, Wayne Leslie "W.L." of Friona, Texas and Chad Wendell of Thedford, Nebraska; grandchildren Erin Christine Whipp of Missoula, Montana, Marc Patrick Whipp of Nederland, Colorado and Kyle Wendell Whitmore of Friona, Texas; a brother William Robert Whitmore of Davenport, Iowa; other family and close friends.
