Vivian Cleo "Jackie" Bolin, daughter of James Floyd and Josiephene (Parker) Bailey, was born on April 1, 1912, in Van Hill Tennessee. She was given the nickname "Jack" by her father and went by Jack or Jackie all of her life. Jackie grew up in the Science Hill, Pulaski County, Kentucky and Rock Port, Missouri areas where she attended country schools.
On January 9, 1932, Jackie was united in marriage with James Eldredge Bolin at Rock Port, Missouri, and to this union four children, Sally, Patsy, Sharon and Dan were born. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Northboro vicinity until the early 1940's when they purchased a farm south of Coin. They sold their farm in 1952 and operated Bolin Elevator for 27 years.
Jackie was a member of the Coin United Methodist Church, was active in the establishment and operation of the Coin Library, and worked for the U. S. Postal Service at the Coin Post Office for several years. She was artistically talented in china painting, crafting jewelry, quilting and crocheting. Although never trained formally to read music, she could play many gospel songs on the piano "by ear" and enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with her husband, Jim.
Preceding Jackie in death were her husband, Jim, in January 1993; parents; three sisters, Opal, Lemma and Lena; and two brothers, Paul and Ralph. Survivors include her four children, Sally Claussen of Harlan, IA, Patsy Mahoney of Tampa, FL, Sharon Hall and husband, Robert, of Niota, IL, and Dan Bolin and his wife Ruth of New Castle, WY; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Jackie passed away on Saturday morning, February 11, 2006, at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, where she had been a resident since 1992. She had attained the age of 93 years, 10 months and 10 days.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. James Gubser.
