Viola Marie Barton, daughter of Clarence Renic and Lulu Elizabeth (Hedrick) Weedin, was born on March 10, 1933 in Atchison County, Missouri. She passed away on July 5, 2015 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was 82 years, 3 months and 25 days old.

Viola was born on a rural Atchison County, Missouri farm between Fairfax and Rockport. She grew up on that farm and attended Prairie Flower County School thru 7th grade. She attended Fairfax Public Schools thru graduation from Fairfax High School in 1951. Viola worked at Fairfax High School's administration office performing clerical duties and taking care of all payroll for the school district until her marriage to Blaine Barton on February 2, 1960 at the Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph, Missouri and relocated to Shenandoah in
1960.

Viola was all about family. She enjoyed going to Colorado in the summer and staying at her brothers cabin near Estes Park. She and Blaine, and later along with their kids, would go sight seeing, hiking up around the Bear Lake area and around the cabin along the Thompson River.

Viola especially enjoyed working at George Jay Drug Store for 36 years. She looked forward to meeting and talking to people as they shopped the store. She became an icon, always wearing a smile.

Viola's other hobbies and interests included singing, playing piano, she loved reading, word search puzzles, cooking for family and especially watching over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She modeled for a Maryville clothing store, sang in the church choir, family would surround the piano and join together as she made the keys come alive. Viola also taught Sunday School and was Den Mother for Boy Scouts.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Lulu Weedin, siblings; Lois Mae Dill, Wayne Weedin, Margaret Rechtenback, Kathryn White, Willis Weedin and Kenneth Weedin.

Viola is survived by her husband of 55 years, Blaine Barton, of Shenandoah; two children, Chris Barton and wife Lori and Cynthia Webster and significant other Jerry Gruber, all of Shenandoah; four grandchildren, Ashley Morelock and husband Dave, Tucker Webster, Vanessa Webster and Lauryn Webster, all of Shenandoah; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Ethan Morelock, both of Shenandoah; brother, Phillip Weedin and wife Mary of Columbia, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Viola was a wonderful mother, wife, companion; an inspiration and never giving up.

Memorials in Viola's name are being directed to either the First Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah or to the American Diabetes Association.
