Obituary

Verena L. (O'Conner) Roscoe passed quietly into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 . Her devoted daughter Katie was at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Sherman Roscoe. She was the beloved mother to Joyce B. (Gary) Swartz, Kathryn A. (Tony) Schenk, JoAnn M. (Terry) Parker, and Deborah S. (Dan) Traub. Cherished grandmother to John S., Alissa, Sasha, Erin, John B., Michael, Andrew, Lauren, and Bernadette. Proud great-grandmother to Christopher, Dominic, and Hagan. Further survived by many family members.

Verena was born on September 22, 1918, the second of eight children. She attended cosmetology school in Des Moines and moved to Shenandoah for her first job in 1938. Here she met and married Jack Roscoe and raised four daughters.

Verena had many friends while she lived here including the ladies who were members of two bridge clubs. She loved to dance, collected Hummel figurines, did sewing and needlework, and gardening. Verena was always proud of her roses. She enjoyed traveling to and visiting all the different cities and states in which her daughters lived but her greatest adventure was a three week tour of Australia for her 80th birthday.

Verena will be missed by all her family, especially her "four girls".

Memorials may be directed to either the Sangre de Cristo Hospice West of Canon City Colorado or her favorite charity ~ St. Joseph's Indian School, PO Box 200, Chamberlain, SD 57325-0200.
