Obituary

Velma Belle (Stogdill) Boyer was born on January 30, 1937 in Thurman, Iowa, the daughter of Darrell M. and Eula (Baucom) Stogdill. Velma entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Velma's early years were spent in the Thurman area where she attended school and graduated with the Class of 1954. On September 18, 1954 she was united in marriage to Richard D. Boyer and to this union five children were born; Cheryl, Carol, Teresa, Rick and Vickie.
Velma was a stay at home mom until her children were raised. She then worked as a CNA and a Med-Aid for a number of years. She provided the same love and attention to her patients, as she did her family for all of those years.
She loved her family deeply and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, puzzle books, collecting Victorian dolls and bears. She was baptized in the Church of Christ in Sidney, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant daughter Teresa, a sister Marjorie Mattox, and brothers Gilbert, Robert, Virgil, Richard, Lyle, Ronald, Marvin, Larry and Roy.
Those left to honor her memory include her son Rick Boyer and wife Shirley of Shenandoah; daughters Cheryl Hodge and husband Steve of Tarkio, MO, Carol O'Neil of Shenandoah and Vickie Nicholson of Sidney, IA; grandchildren Jason O'Neil and wife Shelby, Jaime Steckelberg and husband Brian, Josh O'Neil, Tiffany Kendrick and husband Matt and Todd Boyer all of Shenandoah, IA, Chelsea and Caitlin Hodge and Scott Sachs all of Tarkio, MO, Mark Sachs and wife Alicia of Nevada, MO and Tracy Sachs of Syracuse, NE; seven great grandchildren; brothers Alan and Dale Stogdill of Shenandoah, IA, Carl Stogdill of Tabor, IA and Jack Stogdill of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters Leona Chaney of Scottsbluff, NE and Karen Powell of Shenandoah, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
