Timothy Tod Johnson, son of D. H. (Tod) Johnson and JoAnna (Von Bank) Johnson, was born on February 1, 1951 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home in Shenandoah surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 62.
Upon graduation from Northwest Webster High School in Barnum, Iowa, Tim served in the U. S. Navy as a Corpsman/Medic. After completing his military service, Tim attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. Tim continued his education, graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Biology and Business. In May of 1992, Tim and Lisa Connell were married and they have two children, Katie and Jake who reside in Shenandoah.
For the last 27 years, Tim has been employed at the Shenandoah Medical Center, first as a paramedic and later in the Information Technology Department as a Network Technician. Tim was an active community participant, serving as a school board member, Commander of the American Legion, teaching religion classes at St. Mary's Catholic Church and working as a volunteer athletic trainer for the Shenandoah football and wrestling teams. Tim was a member of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge #1122 and Shenandoah American Legion Post #88.
Tim's greatest joy was spending time with his family. Tim took special pride in Katie and Jake's sports and school activities. Tim enjoyed all sports, particularly following the Chicago Bears. The last family trip before he began his courageous battle with cancer was made to Chicago to watch the Bears play the Minnesota Vikings.
Preceding Tim in death were his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; and his father and mother-in-law, John and Virginia Connell.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa, daughter, Katie, son, Jake and dogs Rupert and Annabelle, all of the home in Shenandoah; adopted children, Dean, John and Lisa Johnson and their families; two brothers, Frank Johnson of Kearney, MO and his son, Brien Johnson and wife Brandy of Overland Park, KS, and Paul Johnson and his wife Jenny and their two children, Amy Clark and husband Ryan and Joe Johnson, all of Lincoln, NE; sister, Julie Johnson and her two children, Marta Fink of Sioux Falls, SD and Eric Fink of Burnsville, MN. Also surviving are three brother-in-laws, Gary (Jane) Connell of Shenandoah and their children, Amy, Rory and Ross, Gregg (Nancy) Connell of Shenandoah and Nancy's children, Todd Maher and wife Lori and Nick Maher and wife Amy, John (Lisa) Connell of Harlan, IA and their children, Stephanie and Craig; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Tom) Olson of Shenandoah and their children, Emily, Kevin, Jeff and Michael. Tim is also survived by other relatives, many friends and associates, who will miss the big man with an even bigger heart.
