Thomas A. (Tony) Dinville, son of James Emile and Agnes Agatha (Slater) Dinville was born on July 24, 1917 near Strahan, Iowa in Mills County. He passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 89.

At the early age of two weeks, Tony went to live with his aunt and uncle, Julius and Alice (Slater) Christailles. Following the death of his aunt, they moved to a farm in Mills County. Tony attended school at Strahan, graduating from Strahan High School with the Class of 1935.

In 1942, Tony was inducted into the U. S. Army. He served in the Northwest Pacific during World War II, from 1943 until his discharge in 1945. Following the war, he worked in a filling station in Shenandoah and later for B. F. Goodrich in Red Oak, Iowa. He was Assistant County Engineer in Fremont County, Iowa for several years. He later took a similar position with Mills County before joining the Shenandoah Post Office as a letter carrier for 16 years until his retirement.

In July of 1966, Tony was united in marriage to Elaine S. Martin. They made their home in Shenandoah. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. Tony loved the outdoors. Fishing, baseball and golf were his favorite past times. He played baseball for several years on different teams throughout southwest Iowa. He was an avid bowler on different teams at Tebbe's Bowling Center, winning state and national tournaments. He loved to golf with his brothers and nephews.

Preceding Tony in death were his parents; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Mary C. Martin; aunt and uncle, Alice and Julius Christailles; brothers, Julius, George and Leo Dinville; sister, Rose Stoneking; and brothers-in-law, Vincent and Edward Martin. He is survived by his wife, Elaine S. Dinville of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Joe Dinville of Shenandoah, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. Celebrant was Rev. Vern Smith. Lector was Jake McGargill. Vocalist was Jane Emge and organist was Mary Beth Gowing. Altar servers were Hanna and Amy Fursa. Eucharistc ministers were Diane Dinville, Kathy Regan and Pam McGargill. Attending the memory register were Kris Weber and Denise Dinville. Caring for the flowers were Julie Dinville and Lesa Dinville. Ushers were Jerry Regan and Mike Dinville. Casket bearers were Tom Dinville, Andrew Dinville, Duane Dinville, John McGargill, Zachary McGargill and Terry Regan. Military rites were accorded by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 Honor Guard. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are being directed to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennesee.
