Susan Elaine Helms was born on February 8, 1941 in Shenandoah, IA to Ralph and Myrtle (Carl) Helms. She passed away after a brief illness on November 18, 2008 at the Tablerock Health Center in Kimberling City, MO.
She attended Prairie Center and Centennial rural schools in Fremont and Page counties. She was active in the Grant Pepperettes 4-H Club winning many ribbons at the Page County Fair. In 1959, she graduated from Shenandoah High and was selected Salutatorian. After graduation she lived in Denver, CO and was a secretary for GMAC and British Petroleum for several years before returning to Shenandoah.
She married Ronald E. Glasgo on January 15, 1966 in Omaha, NE. To this union one son was born, Roger E. Glasgo. Susan was elected to the Shenandoah City Council in the 1970s. She later worked for the City of Shenandoah first as a secretary to the City Manager and then as a police dispatcher. In 1992 the family moved to the Branson, MO area where she worked part-time as a front desk clerk so that she would have time to enjoy the view of the Ozarks from her deck.
Susan loved her family and friends. She enjoyed many hobbies including genealogy, reading, logic puzzles, and feeding the hummingbirds.
Her parents preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Ron of Galena, MO; her son Roger of Columbia, MO; her step-daughters Trena Bacha and Debbie Marlow of Hesperia, CA; 5 step-granddaughters Jennifer, Jessica and Jamie Patterson, Mandy Anderson and Lauren Bacha and 1 step-grandson Eric Boswell; two sisters Mary Boswell and husband Curt of Elizabeth, CO and Lynda Stewart and husband Dale of Dexter, MO; two brothers Donald L. Helms and wife Bette of Forsyth, MO and David Helms of Spirit Lake, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Remembrance Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Lamb officiating. Attending the memorial register were Susan's good friends Phyllis Alley and Sarah Hoffman. Special music for the service included "When I Get Where I'm Going", "His Saving Love", "I Can Only Imagine" and "Wind Beneath My Wings". Serving as Honorary Casket Bearers were Zachary Helms, Mack Stewart, Matt Boswell, Bob Boswell, Fred Boswell, Dale Stewart and Bill Glasgo. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
