Obituary

Shirley Jean (Zuck) Dreyer was born December 25, 1933, to Arnold Alexander and Fern Alice (Brown) Zuck on the family farm east of Hamburg, Iowa.

She had an older brother Duane and they attended High Creek Country School. Younger brother Dale was ten years her junior. The family moved south of Farragut when she was in the third grade and Shirley graduated from Farragut High in 1951.

She worked briefly at a bank in Shenandoah and as a secretary for the high school principal of Shenandoah Schools. On March 23, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Dreyer, at the Farragut United Methodist Church. They made their home on a farm south of Farragut. Four sons were welcomed into this home: Dave, Bob, Tim and Scott. Shirley and Bill raised their sons while working side by side on the farm. She was a wonderful cook - well known for cream puffs, brownies and homemade noodles. She loved to garden and shared the fruits of her labors with family and friends. Putting up sweet corn was a family affair involving 3 to 4 generations! Bill and Shirley square danced for years and took family vacations to Minnesota every summer for fishing! She loved sports in high school and that competitive spirit carried over into tennis, table tennis and playing cards. Bill and Shirley wintered in Florida for many years and during that time Shirley found a new love in painting. She was a member of the Farragut Garden and Craft Club, Centennial Club and Dancing Grannies. She was a life-long member of the Farragut United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, was Sunday school teacher, UMW officer and most recently a member of the Prayer Shawl ministry. In 2004, Bill and Shirley retired after living on the farm for 52 years, built a new home in Shenandoah, Iowa. They became actively involved in the Senior Center and loved playing cards three days a week.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a granddaughter, Shelby Grace Dreyer.

Left to honor her memory include her loving husband of 64 years, Bill of Shenandoah, son Dave and Sherri Dreyer of Farragut, son Bob and Carolyn Dreyer of Farragut, son Tim and Shawna Dreyer of Farragut, son Scott and Sara Dreyer of Altoona, Iowa, brothers Duane Zuck of Omaha, Nebraska and Dale and Sally Zuck of Laredo, Texas; ten grandchildren, Kent (Venus) Dreyer, Lynsey Dreyer, Alex Dreyer, Cassie (Alex) Gracia, Niclas (Megan) Dreyer, Adam (Rachel) Dreyer, B.J. (Megan) Dreyer, Greg (Katie) Dreyer, Mike (Aubery) Dreyer and Kelli Dreyer, eleven great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

She will be fondly remembered as a hard-working, loving wife and mother and a fun-loving grandma.
