Obituary

Sally Jo (Buckley) Johnson was born on June 18, 1936 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Doyle Earl and Fama Ernestine (Wheeler) Buckley. Sally entered into the arms of her Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2011 surrounded by her loving family in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Sally's early years were spent in Shenandoah. She attended Shenandoah Community Schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1954. On September 2, 1956 she was united in marriage to Clair Johnson at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. The couple was blessed with 54 years of marriage. Clair and Sally's journey together began at the age of 4 when they were neighbors. Their relationship then turned to high school sweethearts and later into husband and wife. A true lesson in love to inspire us all.

During her working years Sally was employed as a florist for Shenandoah Floral for 25 years. She later worked for Central Surveys prior to her retirement.

Sally was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah, where she served as Deaconess, was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and served on the church board. For 15 years Sally served as co-chairperson of the local Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was an outstanding citizen who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. In 2010 she was recognized by the First Christian Church as "Mother of The Year". Some of her passions included cooking, sewing, crafting, baking, reading cookbooks, spending time with her family, and tending to her plants. She was simply a lovely lady.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jon Johnson; her parents Doyle and Fama Buckley and mother and father-in-law Carroll and Irene Johnson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Clair of Shenandoah; daughter Jan Scott and husband Vernon of Independence, IA and Jill Torres and husband Eddie of Austin, TX; son Jodie Johnson and wife Michelle of Hastings, NE; grandchildren Jessica Franzen of Evanston, IL, Kelsey Snyder and husband Cory of Gilbert, AZ, Remington Scott and wife Mikki of Urbana, IA, Mitchell Torres of Austin, TX and Maggie, Lacey and Allison Johnson all of Hastings, NE; other relatives and a host of friends.
