Ruth Bernice Arnett, daughter of Henry and Eva Eldora (Adams) Dumler, was born on June 4, 1924, in Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, November 24, 2006, at the Clarinda Regional Medical Center in Clarinda, Iowa, following a brief illness at the age of 82.
Her early life was spent in the rural areas of Montgomery County near the communities of Stanton and Villisca. Her father was a farmer who rented farm ground and did all his work with horses. Ruth and the other kids helped do the chores on the farm. Ruth received her early education from country schools near Stanton and Villisca before graduating from Villisca High School with the Class of 1943. On January 29, 1950, Ruth was united in marriage to Harry E. Arnett of St. Joseph, Missouri in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Following their marriage they resided in Shenandoah, Iowa. They lived for a short time in Sidney, Iowa, and Nebraska City before moving back to Shenandoah. Ruth worked at Henry Fields for five years, Omaha Cold Storage in Nebraska City for 17 years, Blue Star for five years and Earl May's for two years. Ruth belonged to the Tabor Lutheran Church and had been a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Villisca. She was baptized at Walleen. Ruth loved her grandson, James, and great grandson, Damian. She also loved her dogs, Bear, Roxie, Shadow and Cup Cake. She enjoyed reading in her spare time.
Preceding Ruth in death were her parents; grandparents, Jacob Dumler and grandmother Dumler and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Adams; plus many aunts and uncles. Survivors include her husband, Harry Arnett; and daughter, Sheryl Arnett of Shenandoah; grandson, James Arnett and great grandson Damian, all of Shenandoah; sister, Sylvia Shipley and her husband Earl of Villisca, IA; brother, William H. Dumler and his wife Dorothy of Villisca, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.
