Obituary

Russell Fremont Strange was born on September 2, 1946 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Fremont Franklin and Olivia Beatrice (Mutchler) Strange.  Russell entered into eternal peace on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at his home in Shenandoah.

Russell spent most of his life in the Shenandoah community.  It was here that he attended school and worked.  On February 17, 1964 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country while stationed in France.  He received an honorable discharge on January 27, 1967.  Following his return home, he was united in marriage to Wanitta Larson.  To this union two sons were born; Gerald Fremont and Wade Ugene.  The couple later divorced.

While working at Lakes Nursery he met his second wife, Ruby Ione Carter.  They were united in marriage on April 30, 1976.  To this union 2 sons were born, Keylon Wynn and Jeremiah Jacob.  Ruby and Russell were blessed with 48 years of marriage.

In his spare time he enjoyed watching wrestling, the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals on the television.  He also had a passion for writing poetry and music, singing, reading, camping, fishing and doing puzzle books.  Russell inherited his creative writing skills from his grandmother.  He even had one of his songs published!  His greatest love was for his family.  He enjoyed spending time with them, teaching them life lessons and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brothers Billy and Frankie and son Wade Ugene.  Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife Ruby; children Gerald Strange, Keylon Strange and wife Rebecca and Jeremiah Strange and significant other Tiffany Van; grandchildren, Jessica, Whitney, Anthony, Edward, Byron, Billy and Kevin; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Regenea Esquivel  Connie McClaron and husband Jimmie and Karen Smith; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
