Obituary

Ruby F. Smith, 83, of Red Oak and formerly of Shenandoah, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Red Oak.

Ruby Faye (Hensley) Smith was born on December 7, 1925 in Percival, Iowa the daughter of William Franklin and Mary Ellen (Stroupe) Hensley.

Ruby's early years were spent on a number of farms in the Percival and Hastings area. She attended school in Randolph and Hastings and graduated from Hastings with the Class of 1944. On August 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to Walter N. Smith in Malvern, Iowa. The couple lived in Omaha, Brazil, Tennessee, and North Carolina, before settling in Shenandoah.

Ruby was a dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed caring for her children and later on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, reading, and listening to country music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother J.D. Hensley, her former husband Walter, and a great-grandson Enan Smith.

Those left to honor her memory include her children Marlin Smith and wife Kathy of McCloud, OK and Les Smith of Red Oak, IA, 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother LeRoy Hensley and wife Mildren of Shenandoah, IA, sister Sarah Abbott of Farragut, IA, other relatives and dear friends.
