Ronald Ross Barrett was born on April 1, 1939 in Shenandoah, Iowa; he was the son of Ross William and Dorothy Marie (Cooper) Barrett. Ronald entered into peace on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2009 at his home followed by a brave battle with cancer.
Ron was raised in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1957. On January 17, 2009 he was united in marriage to Gloria King in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
During Ron's working days he was employed by Earl May Nursery in Shenandoah, Cooks Paint in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Western Electric, and AT&T from which he retired in 1997.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with nature and wildlife. He was especially fond of his beloved dogs, Misty and Jay, whom he left behind. While living in Wyoming he served as a hunting guide in the Grand Tetons. He also enjoyed listening to music, particularly early rock-n-roll and country. He enjoyed dancing the swing and the two-step. Ron's rock farm was also an important part of his life.
Ron was preceded in death by his father Ross Barrett and brother-in-law James Drake.
Those left to honor Ron's memory include his wife Gloria of Neola, IA; mother Dorothy Barrett of LaVista, NE; sister Barbara Moore and husband David of Papillion, NE; sister Judy Drake of LaVista, NE; son John Barrett and wife Linn of Greeley, CO; son Robert Barrett of Hawaii; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 on Saturday morning, March 14, 2009 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Blodgett officiating. Special music for the service included the recordings of "Precious Memories", "How Great Thou Art" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". Serving as casket bearers were Danny Higgins, Rod Roy, Stephen Barrett, Mike Kermeen, Shane Fisher and Kenny Drake. Honorary casket bearers included David Moore, Raymond Cooper, Kenneth Cooper and Michael Barrett. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
