Obituary

Roena passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Garden View Care Center. In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

Roena Kelly Shey was born on October 2, 1932 in Shenandoah, Iowa; the daughter of Thomas Work and Nina Marie (Maine) Kelly. She entered eternally into rest on September 3, 2008 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

She attended school in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1950. During high school and afterwards she worked at Spurgeon's department store in Shenandoah until its closure. She later worked at Garden View Care Center. She served on the founding board of Nishna Productions. She was extremely active in the church, often taking communion to the shut-ins in the area. She enjoyed short trips and took them often. She was a thoughtful and caring person to all those around her. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Anna Marie, and her beloved son, Kevin Patrick Shey.

She is survived by her brothers; Dick Kelly and wife Mary Jo of Estes Park, Colorado and Jim Kelly and wife Janet of Lincoln, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; Michael Kelly and wife Geneen, David Kelly and wife Robin, Rick Svenonius and wife Peggy, Tom Kelly and wife Debbie, Kate Belleau and husband Brian, Scott Kelly, Steve Kelly and wife Karen, Brenda Kelly, Angela Henderson and husband Rod, and Dana Kelly; other relatives and dear friends.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; September 6, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, Iowa with Father Vern Smith celebrating the mass. Virgina Maine, Pat Owen, Linda Whitehill and Phyllis Sandquist attended the memory register while Merrill Whitehill served as an usher. Howard and Mary Alice Johnson, Pat Ginger and Phyllis Ketcham cared for flowers. "Amzing Grace", "Gentle Woman", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Eagle's Wings", "Song of Farewell" and "God Be With You" where played by Mary Beth Gowing with Fred Strunk serving as cantor. Eucharistic Ministers were Norma Troxel, Emily Daoust and Vaughn Livingston. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Roena's beloved nieces and nephews; Rick & Peggy Svenonius , Tom & Debbie Kelly, Brian & Kate Belleau, Brenda Kelly, Scott Kelly, Steve & Karen Kelly, Rod & Angela Henderson and Dana Kelly. Burial followed at Locust Grove Cemetery in Rural Farragut, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to Garden View Care Center. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.hackettlivingston.com .
