Obituary

Robert "Bob" Sickler, age 87, passed away May 25, 2012 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church or the American Legion Post #88.

Robert Eugene Sickler was born on June 5, 1924 in Glenwood, Iowa, the son of Marion and Elizabeth (Farrington) Sickler. Bob entered into eternal peace on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa.

When Bob was an infant, the family moved to Sarasota, Florida where the family resided until Bob was 5 years old. They then moved back to the Iowa and resided in the Silver City area and later in Shenandoah, where Bob attended school. Bob joined the United States Army in 1943 and served his country with pride until he was honorably discharged in 1944. He served overseas in China, Burma and India. Following the war, he worked in Omaha for a few years, then returned to Shenandoah where he made his home.

On June 5, 1988 he was united in marriage to Corinne Duncan at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The couple was married for 3 years before Corinne passed away on June 22, 1991. Bob was a self-employed painter his entire life. Some of his hobbies included refinishing and repairing old clocks and collecting paperweights. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Corinne; brothers Willard "Bill" Sickler and Marion Leo Sickler; and sisters Pauline Eyberg and Betty White.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sister Marge Manchester of Shenandoah, IA, Dorothy Christofferson of Yuma, AZ and Mary Harms of Shenandoah, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
