Robert M. Putnam the son of Ralph and Marie Black Putnam, was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on March 27, 1931 and passed away on August 10, 2007 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Robert was raised in Shenandoah and attended school their. After his schooling he worked for Iowa Power and Light in Shenandoah later moving to Council Bluffs where he worked for Schlitz Brewing Company and Bevin & Bevin, driving a truck. He later became a bus driver for Metro Area Transit for over 29 years retiring in 1993. After retiring he and Nora delivered papers for the Omaha World Hearld. Robert was a member of the Teamster Union.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Putnam. Survivors include his long time companion, Nora Loye of Council Bluffs, IA.; her daughters, Rita Smith of Omaha, NE., Theresa Loye of Danbury, CN., and Marie Loye of Council Bluffs, IA.; and their children, Aaron and Rhea Smith of Omaha, NE., Rickki and Ryan Loye of Council Bluffs, IA.; a sister-in-law Mary Putnam of Shenandoah, IA., a niece Brenda Franks of Essex, IA.; two nephews, Bob Putnam of Wahoo, NE., and Steve Putnam of Essex, IA.; great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Rick Sleyster. Casket bearers were Craig Smith, Aaron Smith, Adam Putnam, Tony Putnam, Joe Chapman and Ben Putnam. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
