Obituary

Robert Allen Nielsen was born on September 25, 1934 in Tarkio, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Ruth (Smith) Nielsen. Bob entered into eternal peace on Friday, September 24, 2010 in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Bob's early years were spent in the Watson, Missouri area where he attended school. On January 20, 1953 he enlisted in the United States Army. Bob attended his basic training in Fort Carson, Colorado. During his time with the military he completed his high school education, received computer training, and also completed military justice training. Bob military service of 20 years took him to Germany, Alaska, Korea, Georgia, and Kansas.

During Bob's military career he faced many challenges and served during numerous missions. He served in the most commendable manner and contributed to the overall success of the Army and the Department of Defense. He received several awards including the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Expert Rifle Badge, and National Defense Medal.

On January 3, 1991 he was united in marriage to Anna Belle Richardson in Shenandoah, Iowa. Bob worked at various jobs around the Shenandoah area, but most knew him as a truck driver for Stewart Feed. He was also a former member of the Eagle's. He enjoyed taking pictures and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Clifton Nielsen and wife Goldie, brother John Nielson, and sisters Alice Tally and Susie Villalapondo.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Anna; sister Charlene Carter and husband Lloyd of Essex; children Deborah Crandell and husband Otis of Oakridge, OR, Russell Nielsen of Lincoln, NE, Douglas Nielsen and wife Tina of Oakridge, OR and Denis Nielsen and wife Linda of West Fir, OR; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; step-children David Good of Beatrice, NE, Janet Woodward and husband Craig, Dan Good and wife Colleen, Cinda Carlson and husband Brad, and Lori Pelster all of Shenandoah; 16 step-grandchildren and 28 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
