Obituary

Robert James Madsen, son of Joseph A. and Ruby Lena (Byriel) Madsen, was born on September 7, 1941 in Carroll, Iowa. Bob passed away September 8, 2015 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 74 years old.

Bob had attracted the Polio Virus by the age of 7. His 8th birthday was celebrated in an iron lung at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines.

Bob graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1959. After graduation he attended Van Sant Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska.

During Bob's early school years he was a paperboy for the Des Moines Register. After college he worked as a bookkeeper in the Omaha Stock Yard Exchange Building, then at Schleisman Cement Company in Carroll, Iowa in the Accounting Department and then as a Parts Manager at Madsen International, Inc. in Shenandoah from 1970 to the present.

Bob was an altar boy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Audubon as a child. As an adult he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah.

In high school he was the manager for the football and basketball teams. He loved watching baseball, golf and basketball on TV. He also enjoyed playing poker on the computer. He also loved his cars; 1962 Rambler, 1964 GTO, 1967 Impala Convertible Corvette and 1971 Dodge Super Bee.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ruby Madsen and nephew Clayton Delane Hamm.

Bob is survived by his siblings Trish Delehant and husband Mike, Douglas Madsen and wife Gwynne, Tom Madsen and wife ElJean, Pam Simon and husband Gary, Carol Sue McEnaney and husband Delbert and Joe R. Madsen and wife Julie, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Bob always remembered the anniversaries and birthdays of all 17 nieces, nephews and their children, they loved the Christmas cash!

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Shenandoah, Iowa.

Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa.
