Robert "Bob" Davis' Obituary
Robert Eugene Davis of Shenandoah, entered into rest on August 9, 2009. He was born on June 27, 1937; at the Thousand Hills Farm, located in Adair County Missouri. Robert was the youngest son of Leonard Thomas and Myrtie Jane (Harden) Davis.
Bob's parents were tenant farmers residing in the Iowa communities of Tabor, Malvern and Amana; and the Missouri communities of Kirksville, Brookfield, and Burlington Junction. His early education was in the country schools, and he attended high school at Amana, Iowa. He was drafted to the military in 1960, serving as an Army Medic at Fort Benning, Georgia. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1964 he joined his parents in Rock Port, Missouri.
On May 23, 1964, at the First Christian Church, Robert married Mary Lou Williams of Shenandoah. To this union, two sons were born, Andrew Thomas and Brian Heath.
Bob worked on road construction projects and was a salesman for Moorman Feeds. In 1974, he began his own business, R.E. (Bob) Davis Construction; building farm ponds and terraces and land clearing for farming and construction. The business continued until 1981 when he began working as a machinist for Eaton Corporation, retiring in 2001 due to poor health.
During his military service, Bob played tennis on clay courts, in a semi-professional league. He enjoyed music, played guitar, and sang to his children. He loved to cook and enjoyed meals entertaining family and friends. Some of Bob's interests included raising and showing registered American Quarter Horses, and the Nishna Valley Saddle Club, where he served as president from 1970-1971, during the Shenandoah Centennial Celebration. He was a farrier and avid calf roper, sharing calves with special roper friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother; his sister, Betty Colleen; his parents; and his brother Leonard Max. Survivors being his faithful wife of 45 years Mary Lou of Shenandoah; sons Andrew Davis of Biltmore Forest, NC and Brian Davis of Shenandoah; sister Helen Osterholm of Plattsmouth, NE; ten nieces and nephews; and one granddaughter, Genevive Louise his much loved pride and joy.
