Richard Andrew Frank was born at home March 12, 1926, to Anna (Peck) Frank and John Walton Frank in Redfield, Iowa.  He passed away on November 21, 2021, with family by his side at Accura Healthcare of Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 95.

In 1927, the family, including older brother Herbert, moved to the Frank family farm near Liberty Center, Iowa.  Richard grew up and graduated from Liberty Center High School with the class of 1943.  He attended Simpson College, the first semester before he was called up by the Army Air Corps in 1944. He served at several air bases in the U.S. till 1945, when World War II ended.  He had learned to fly during this time, the beginning of a lifetime passion.  He returned to Simpson College on the G.I. Bill and was reunited with his college sweetheart, Virginia Wayt, whom he married January 18, 1947, at the Shenandoah Methodist Church.  After he finished his BA degree in 1949, he began his other love, farming.  Over 30 years he lived and farmed in Liberty Center, Farragut, Coin and Essex.  During these years he continued his interest in flying and rebuilt planes and built two from full size kits.  His grandchildren loved riding with him.

His family had grown to four daughters, Jan, Beth, Carol and Sandra.  Vacations were trips within the United States in places of interest.

Later when the Eaton Corporation established the transmission plant in Shenandoah, he was among the first management employees and remained there for 15 years till retirement in 1987.  He had time for hobbies – rebuilt his Dad's 1938 Oliver tractor, continuing to work on airplanes, working on and riding his bike on the Wabash Trace, and refinishing family oak and walnut furniture.  He had continued to contribute his time to the Essex Presbyterian Church, the Shenandoah Airport Commission and the former Coop Oil and Supply.

As his memory faded, he still welcomed family members to visit.  He was loved by all of them and especially his wife of almost 75 years, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Herbert, his younger sister, Mary Anne Gebhardt, son-in-law Paul Zuvanich, grandson Philip Andrew Zuvanich, sisters-in-law Jeanie Frank and Lanise Frank.

Left to mourn him are Virginia Frank, his wife of Shenandoah; his brother Jim (Marjean) Frank of Ankeny, IA; his four daughters, Jan Frank-de Ois of Essex, IA, Beth (David) Crow of Ames, IA, Carol (John) Schuckman of Laramie, WY, and Sandra Zuvanich of Sandy Hook, CT, nine grandchildren Elena (Doug Resh) de-Ois of Hong Kong; Laura Lerch of Cedar Rapids, IA; Kevin (Paige) Crow of Altoona, IA, Brian (Elisha) Crow of Norwalk, IA; Jarvis (Amy) Schuckman of Portland, OR; Jay (Reanna) Schuckman of Laramie, WY, Tyler Schuckman of Tucson, AZ; Sarah Zuvanich of Nashville, TN; Maggie Zuvanich of Sandy Hook, CT,  six great-grandchildren, other beloved nieces and nephews and friends, as well as Ginny and John Cooper of Frederick, MD, friends from the freshman classes of 1942 and 1943 at Simpson College. Love lasts!

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., December 4, 2021 at the Essex Presbyterian Church.  Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., December 4, 2021 at the Essex Presbyterian Church.  Memorials may be directed to the Wabash Trace, Essex Presbyterian Church or the Shenandoah Public Library.  Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
