Obituary

Rex Eugene Funk was born on March 14, 1936 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Floyd "Jack" and Fairrell (Ingram) Funk.  Rex entered into eternal peace on Sunday, May 23, 2021 in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Rex's entire life was spent mostly in the Shenandoah community.  It was here that he attended school and later graduated from Shenandoah High School.  During his working days he was employed by Central Surveys before taking on his lifelong career of becoming an over-the-road truck driver.

On March 14, 1986 he was united in marriage to his beloved Barbara Pickard.  The couple made their home in Shenandoah, later moving to Clarinda and most recently moving back home to Shenandoah.  He was never far from his childhood home.  The couple owned and operated a bowling alley in Hamburg.  When that closed, they built Frontier Lanes Bowling Alley in Clarinda.  They were able to move the bowling lanes from the Hamburg location to Clarinda, which was actually quite the task.

Some of Rex's interests included watching the Dallas Cowboys, bowling, traveling, cruising around in his truck and woodworking.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jack, Robert, Shirley, Ivan, Patsy and Phyllis.  Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife Barbara, step-children Gayla Frohwein and husband Bruce and Randy Pickard and wife Michelle, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or St. Croix Hospice.
