Raymond Lee Dailey was born April 28, 1935 in Malvern, Iowa to Bertie Glen and Gladys Blanche (Thrapp) Dailey. He graduated from Thayer, Iowa High School in 1953. Raymond passed away July 2, 2008 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 73.

Ray was married to Dixie Lee Hutt on August 1, 1958 at the Broadway Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They had eloped and had a double wedding with his brother Eldon Dean Dailey and Charlotte Jean Ranck.

Ray and Dixie were blessed with three children, Russell Lynn, Donna Marie and Deanna Rae.

Ray became a truck driver and worked for Richard Jaeckel in Shenandoah, Alkire Truck Lines and Hunt Livestock Trans. In Omaha, Nebraska. After moving back to Shenandoah, he drove for Morton House Kitchens in Nebraska City, Nebraska, Crouch Bros. in Shenandoah and 21 years for Yellow Freight in Shenandoah. He was a 30 year member of the Teamsters Union Local #147. After retiring from driving, he worked for Used Car Connection.

Ray enjoyed driving tractors, putting up hay for the horses and also enjoyed going to tractor pulls. He was a member of the Nishna Valley Saddle Club for 33 years and was active in the Pony Express Riders of Iowa for 10 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Eldon Dean Dailey, Melvin Thrapp Dailey and Donald Eugene Dailey; and nephew Glen Dean Dailey. He is survived by his wife, Dixie; children, Russ and Carole Dailey, Donna and Ed Robison and Deanna Lambertsen; grandchildren, Rachel Lynn, Kyle James, Coleman James and Hannah Rose Dailey, Stephanie Marie and Andrea Lynn Robison, Dustin Alen and Jessica Ann Lambertsen; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Clark Finehout. Carole Dailey attended the memory register. Special music for the service was "Softly And Tenderly" and "In The Garden". Casket bearers were Kenny Gleason, Rick Rivers, Steve Fienup, Terrry Allely, Bill Gibson and Steve Koehler. Honorary casket bearers were "The Depot Breakfast Club": Bob Ohmacht, Terry Johnson, Bob Davis, Roger Perry, Duane Whitehill, Tom Madsen, Don Gibson, Jim O'Hara, Jim Winegardner, John "Bear" Meyer, Dennis Grummert, Randy Carlson, Chad Looper and Tom Simanek. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa. Memorials are being directed to the family. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
