Phyllis Lorrene Runyon, daughter of Floyd Lee Strange and Francis Lorrene (Fahseler) Strange, was born on July 13, 1951, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 4, 2008, at her home in Shenandoah at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 21 days.

Her early life was spent in the Shenandoah and Farragut, Iowa areas. She received her education in the Shenandoah, Farragut and Blanchard, Iowa, School Districts. On January 21, 1967, Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Dean Runyon in Omaha, Nebraska. They resided in the Shenandoah area following their marriage. To this union five children were born, Tammie, James, Dick, Dannie and Bob. Phyllis worked as a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) for 20 plus years. She loved going to Swap Meets. Phyllis was an avid NASCAR fan with her favorite car and driver being #8, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. A huge country music fan, Phyllis attended Fan Fair in Nashville, Tennessee several times. Traveling brought great enjoyment also. One of her favorite memories was riding the Ducks in Branson, Missouri. Most of all, Phyllis loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them and reminiscing of days gone by.

Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents, Floyd and Francis Strange. Survivors include her lifelong partner, Richard Runyon of Shenandoah, IA; daughter, Tammie Comstock and her husband Dan of Shenandoah, IA; four sons, James Runyon and his wife Erica, Dick Runyon and his wife Sheila and Dannie Runyon, all of Shenandoah, IA, and Bob Runyon and his wife Suzanne of Indianola, IA; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Norma Bailey and husband Larry of Clarinda, IA; four brothers, Floyd Strange and wife Donna of Essex, IA, James Strange of Sidney, IA, David Strange and wife Sharon of Randolph, IA, and Allen Strange and wife Joy of Randolph, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were held from the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Rick Sleyster. Special Musical Selections included: "Chasing That Neon Rainbow", "Time Marches On", and "Remember When". Casket Bearers were Jason Rogers, Jeremy Runyon, Mike Comestock, Michael Taylor, Brad Van Houten, and Michael Runyon. Interment was in the Hastings Cemetery in Hastings, Iowa.
