Phyllis Jean Rowan, daughter of Donald Raymond and Mabel (Flynn) Meads, was born on June 12, 1931 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on November 15, 2019 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 88.
Phyllis's entire early years were spent in Shenandoah, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the class of 1949. On October 15, 1950 she married Harold N. Rowan at the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. They farmed outside of Coin, Iowa.
Phyllis worked for Central Surveys, Henry Fields in the Catalog Department and at Lake's Nursery. She worked at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute in Admissions and Medical Records for 17 years, then for 10 years at Goldenrod Manor Nursing Home as a CNA until retirement. She was a member of the Shenandoah and Coin Methodist Church's. She was a member of the choir at the Coin Methodist Church for years. She also attended the Nishna Valley Christian Church in Shenandoah.
Phyllis was busy with raising children and no time for hobbies. She loved her wonderful children and grandchildren so dearly.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 2014, beautiful daughter Julie in 1968, granddaughter Amanda Nicole Stewart in 1982, great-granddaughter Hailey Grace Rowan in 2004, parents Donald and Mabel Meads and mother and father-in-law Murvel and Thelma Rowan. Left to cherish memory include her children; Steve Rowan and wife Linda of Bedford, Iowa, Chris Stewart and husband Jim of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, Debbie Rowan of Clearfield, Iowa, Ann Murphy and husband Don of Blanchard, Iowa, Pam Nebel and husband Gary of Farragut, Iowa and Kurt Rowan and wife Theresa of Bedford, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Burial will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
