Phyllis Ruth (Young) Reece was born on May 17th, 1929 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Gerald Young and Berniece Ruth Young. Phyllis passed away peacefully on February 23rd, 2017 at the Woodlands Retirement Community in Huntington, WV.

Phyllis grew up west of Shenandoah and in her early years attended a one-room schoolhouse. Her parents later moved to Coin, where Phyllis attended and graduated from Coin Consolidated Schools. Phyllis received a B.A. degree in music education from Simpson College in Indianola, IA, where she was also a member of the Tri-Delta sorority. She taught elementary music until her marriage to Robert Sterling Reece on October, 24th, 1953.

The couple was blessed with five children and over 55 years of marriage. Phyllis was an excellent cook and seamstress. She also taught piano and voice lessons to many young people in the area. She was an organist and choir director for the Coin United Methodist Church for over forty years, and played for countless weddings and funerals. For many years, Phyllis accompanied the Page County Women's Chorus. Phyllis was also active in the United Methodist Women, serving numerous times as a local and district officer, and once as state president. She enjoyed going to the United Methodist Annual Conference and the School of Missions and seeing many friends there.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; a son, Thomas Duane Reece, and her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Ruth Reece of Columbia, MO, Regina Schulze and husband Arnie of Omaha, NE, Tim Reece and wife Nancy of Urbandale, IA, and Faith Minihan and husband John of Huntington, WV; grandchildren, A.J. Schulze, John T. Minihan, Hannah Minihan, Daniel Minihan and Abigail Minihan, Sophia Reece and Thomas Reece, as well as two brothers, Rev. Joseph Eugene Young and Rev. David Ward Young, and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin.
