Obituary

Phyllis Lucille Funk, daughter of Gordon H. and Agnes Y. (Shaffer) Bradley, was born June 1, 1926 in Pleasant Township, Cass County, Iowa. She passed away on July 27, 2016 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah. She was 90 years old.

Phyllis spent her early years growing up on the family farm in Cass County, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Red Oak High School. On December 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to Ivan Funk at the First Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah.

Phyllis worked for Northwestern Bell in Red Oak then for J.C. Penney in Shenandoah for several years, then at Home Savings and Loan in Shenandoah and helped in the family business Funk-Kirby Oil Company.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Shenandoah Women's Golf Association, Shenandoah Hospital Auxiliary and the Shenandoah American Legion Post Auxiliary.
Phyllis enjoyed golfing, bowling, following grandchildren in their activities. She and Ivan enjoyed traveling especially to the Iowa Hawkeye football game. They also enjoyed watching golf and helped on several major professional golf tournaments in the Southwest United States.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers Howard and Lloyd Bradley.

Phyllis is survived by her two daughters; Melinda Kirby and husband Eldon and Lori Smith and husband Dan both of Shenandoah, IA, three grandchildren; Brett Kirby and Valerie of Shenandoah, Erin Taylor and husband Jon of Centennial, Colorado and Amanda Branson and husband Dusty of Shenandoah, seven great-grandchildren; Madison, Braelynn, Casey and Harleigh Kirby and Jack, Sam and Jay Taylor, along with other relatives and friends.

Burial of cremated remains will be held at private graveside service in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Shenandoah.
