Penny (Johnson) Sievers' Obituary
Penny (Johnson) Sievers, 53, of Newell, Iowa and formerly of the Shenandoah/Essex area passed away on Sunday,February 20, 2011 at her home in Newell following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Graveside inurnment services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26th at 4:30 p.m. at the Essex Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to the "I Will Not Worry Foundation" or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life gathering for Penny will be held at the Shenandoah Elks Club on Hwy 59 immediately following the graveside service at Essex on Saturday.
Penny was born March 21, 1957 in Sandwich, Illinois, the daughter of Terry and Marcene Johnson. She grew up on a farm north of Shenandoah, where she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools.
She graduated with the Class of 1975. Following high school graduation, Penny recieved her associates degree from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.
Penny enjoyed cooking, flower arranging and most of all chachinging. She was happiest being with people and helping others. Penny started the "I Will Not Worry Foundation" to express a loving concern to others affected by cancer.
In 2009, Penny was honored to be the recipient of the June E. Nylen Star award. Penny shared her smile with others as a volunteer at the hospital. She enjoyed the friendships she made with her Bosom Body Buddies and also enjoyed the trips she took with her "gray hairs".
Penny's most recent employment was at Buena Vista Clinic where she was a medical assistant. Penny enjoyed the friendships she made through her employment.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Cory Sievers and wife Tracie of Collins, Iowa and Josh Sievers and wife Laura of Alton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Nichole and Drake Ross of Collins and Owen and Marshall Sievers of Alton; parents, Terry and Marcene Johnson of Shenandoah; three sisters, Tammy Grebert and husband Dennis of Shenandoah, Rox Herrick and husband Randy of Omaha, NE, and Traci Campin and husband Tom of Crescent, IA; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
Penny was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
