Margaret "Peg" (Dwyer) Callahan was born on September 17, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey; the daughter of Edward and Margaret (O'Keefe) Dwyer. Peg entered into eternal peace on Wednesday afternoon; October 29, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Peg spent her early years in New Jersey and Arkansas. The family later moved to Oklahoma City where Peg attended school and graduated from Bishop McGuiness High School with the Class of 1951. Peg then attended nursing school at Providence Hospital in Oakland, California. Following completion of her nursing training, Peg joined the Air Force where she served her country from 1958-1966. She served overseas for 26 months as a nurse at the Wiesbaden Air Base Hospital in Germany. On October 1, 1962 she was awarded the rank of Captain. On November 10, 1967 she was united in marriage to Lyle F. Callahan in Reno, Nevada. The couple later made their home in Carmichael, California.

Peg was a dedicated housewife and mother. When her son was older, she returned to her career as a registered nurse at Mission Oaks Nursing Home and retired after 22 years of faithful service.

Upon moving to Shenandoah she joined the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #88 and the Shenandoah Hospital Auxiliary. Peg enjoyed traveling with her son Eddie, entertaining and cooking for the family and going to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle F. Callahan and parents Edward and Margaret Dwyer.

Those left to honor her memory include her son, Edward Callahan of Shenandoah; sister, Eileen Connell of Plainville, IL; brother, Edward Dwyer and wife Ruth of Shenandoah; step-daughter, Patricia Hanson and husband Thomas of Lincoln, CA; grandson, Christopher Callahan and wife Robin of Sparks, NV; granddaughter, Sarah Callahan of Folsom, CA; two great-grandchildren; special care providers nieces Patty Mosher of Milwaukee, WI and Margaret Burns and husband Dean of Essex, other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday; November 7, 2008 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Vernon Smith celebrating the mass. Attending the memory register were John and Anne Longstreet. Richard Haigwood and Ernie Aust served as ushers and also as gift bearers. Fred Strunk served a Cantor and Mary Beth Gowing played the organ. Special music for the service included "Holy, Holy, Holy", "Be Not Afraid", "The Old Rugged Cross", "On Eagle's Wings" and "America The Beautiful". Lance Mattice and Ben Fair served as altar servers. Inurnment followed at the Rose Hill Cemetery with special services being held at the Veteran's Chapel. The American Legion Post #88 presented the flag and offered Taps. Memorials may be offered to the Shenandoah Medical Center Hospice Program or to Garden View Care Center.
