Fred Eno, age 89, of Shenandoah, Iowa formerly of Villisca, Iowa entered into peace Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Windsor Manor Assisted Living Center, Shenandoah, Iowa.

Paul Frederick Eno, was born January 1, 1925 in New Market, Iowa. He was the only child of Harvey and Eva Eno. He lived in New Market where his dad had a funeral home and furniture store. In 1936 they moved to Villisca, Iowa where his father went into partnership with Ray Sutphen and had Eno and Sutphen Furniture and Funeral Home. In 1941 the partnership was divided and Harvey took over the furniture business and the Sutphen family took over the funeral business. Fred entered the business with his parents in 1947.

Fred attended Villisca Community Schools where he participated in all sports. His senior year he was the only person on the track team. Every day after school Fred worked out at the track. The superintendent was interested enough in Fred that he came down to time Fred every day. That year Fred went to the Hawkeye 6 meet being the only participant from Villisca and won the track meet by beating Shenandoah, Red Oak, Atlantic, Creston and Clarinda. He still holds the record at Villisca High School for the high and low hurdles, and also some records at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. In the 38th annual state track meet he won the low hurdles and also set a record in the high hurdles at a time of 14.8 seconds. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1943.

After high school he went to the University of Iowa where he played on the football and basketball team. During his first year of college, Fred was drafted into the Army. He spent two and a half years serving in World War II in the European Theater of Operations, during the Central Europe Campaign. He was awarded the Bronze Star for a meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy. He married Arlene Prather in 1948 and two sons were born to this marriage, Kurt Charles and Mark Fredrick. After the service he entered the family business and continued to operate Eno Furniture until it closed in 1986.

In February of 1987 Fred and Arlene retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas where he enjoyed playing more golf. In 2001 they moved to Green Valley, Arizona. After Arlene's death, Fred moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in November of 2012 to be close to family.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene Eno, son, Kurt Eno and grandson, Layne Eno.

Fred is survived by one son, Mark and wife, Carol of Shenandoah; two grandsons, Scott and wife Robin of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Blake and wife Cassie of Omaha, Nebraska; four great grandchildren, Niles, Sophia, Clayton and Simon Eno.
