Obituary

Patrick Vernon Flynn, son of Cecil Gene and Emma Maxine (Smith) Flynn, was born on December 2, 1952 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He entered into eternal peace on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Shenandoah Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Pat spent most of his years in the Shenandoah area. He attended the Shenandoah Schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1971. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Jones on December 2, 1972 and to this union two daughters; Amy and Emily were born. The couple later divorced.
Following high school, Pat worked at the Nishna Valley Lumber Company. He later went to work for Eaton Corporation where he was employed for 35 years. One of Pat's greatest accomplishments was having 28 years of perfect attendance while working for Eaton's. He was devoted to his job and enjoyed the many friendships that he made while working there. Other passions of Pat's included fishing, supporting the Oklahoma Sooners and the Minnesota Vikings, having coffee with friends, going to the casino, and collecting everything from hats, old china, stein mugs, and antique bottles. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed being a part of the bowling league for 22 years. His greatest love was for his family, especially his grandkids. Pat was also a great friend and a wonderful and caring father.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Amy McClintock and husband Chad of Essex, IA and Emily Valquier of Nebraska City, NE; grandchildren, Cody and Camryn McClintock of Essex, IA, Helena and Mariah Valquier and Emma and Ethan Cowden of Nebraska City, NE; mother, Maxine Flynn of Shenandoah, IA; brothers, Mike Flynn of Shenandoah, IA and Dan Flynn of Des Moines, IA; sister, Sharon Riley and husband Jerry of Pittsburgh, KS; eight nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father Cecil Gene Flynn in December of 2007.

Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday; October 21, 2008 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Langley officiating. Barb Taylor and Gail Kirk attended the memorial register while Kaleigh Taylor cared for flowers. Special music for the service included "Wind Beneath My Wings", "Amazing Grace" and "Wait On Me". Casket Bearers included Bob Athen, Randy Clark, Andrew Clark, Gary McAlpin, Patrick Riley and Tim Taylor. Honorary Casket Bearers included Alan Stogdill, Dale Stogdill, Junior Taylor, Barry Bengtson, Howard Clark, Bill Scharp, Jason Heard and Alan Kuntzweiler. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
