Obituary

Nellie Edwards was born to Argust and Janie (Carlton) Edwards on November 26, 1929, and entered rest at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah, Iowa on Thursday, June 20, 2024. She was 94 years old.

Nellie was born in Imogene, Iowa and was the second of three children born to Argust and Janie. Her older brother was Charles and younger sister, Marjorie. She spent her early life on a farm in Page County, Iowa. The family later moved to a farm near Burlington Jct., Missouri where she attended school. After that, the family then moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. Nellie worked at the Henry Field nursery in Shenandoah for many years before retiring. Nellie was very kind and such a gentle and sweet person. She enjoyed staying in touch with family and compiled a hand-typed family tree- long before the internet made this task easier. Holidays and family gatherings were an important part of her life, and she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. She remembered her many family and friends by never forgetting to send holiday, birthday and anniversary cards. If anyone forgot your birthday or special day, you knew you would always get a card from Nellie. She taught us all the value of keeping in touch and making everyone feel special. Also, her kind and generous nature extended to her love of cats and often took care of the stray cats in the neighborhood. She loved our Lord, Jesus Christ and spent a lot of her time reading the Bible.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents Argust and Janie Edwards, brother Charles Edwards and sister Marjorie Sorenson.

Survivors include nephew Richard (Jill) Edwards of Eagle, Nebraska; nieces Janelle (Kent) Coker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Diane (Phil) Grosvenor of Cincinnati, Ohio, Melissa (Bill) Sorenson of Logan, Iowa and other relatives and friends.
