Nancy Carol Mills, daughter of James Arthur and Leah Mae (Hamman) Shipley, was born on April 2, 1948, in Clarinda, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, May 8, 2006, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska following a lengthy bout with cancer at the age of 58.
Most of Nancy's life has been spent in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri. She grew up in Shenandoah where she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1966. Over the years, Nancy worked at Mae Farmers, Fields Clothing, Tober's and Wal-Mart. She was most recently employed at Pella Corporation in Shenandoah.
A creative person, Nancy enjoyed painting, sewing, crafts, cooking and gardening. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah.
Preceding Nancy in death was her father, James Arthur Shipley; grandparents, Fred and Alma (Windom) Shipley and George and Opal (Rascher) Hamman. Survivors include her mother, Leah Mae Shipley of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Richard Shipley and wife Diana of Burlington, IA; two nieces, Lori Miller and husband Josh of Sioux Falls, SD, and Katie Shipley of Denver, CO; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 12, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Pastor James Gubser gave the words of comfort. Vocalist was Dr. Charles Peterson. Organist was Margaret Woods. Special music was, "The Lord's Prayer", "How Great Thou Art" and "Wind Beneath My Wings". Attending the register book was Joy Thompson. Caring for the flowers were Marian Johnson, Vicki Wagoner, Susan Gomel and Janice Carpenter. Honorary casket bearers were Chuck Bartz, Gene Dixon, Charles Norton, Clifford Shipley and Joe Shipley. Casket bearers were Curtis Bartz, Lowell Dixon, Randy Dixon, Bill Shipley, Leland Shipley and Tom Shipley. Interment was in the Prairie Rose Cemetery near Corning, Iowa. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
