Myron E. Ross son of Bert and Mabel (Whitehill) Ross was born on September 24, 1931 in Shenandoah, IA. He entered into rest on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.

Myron attended Essex Community School and graduated with the class of 1950. On August 6, 1952 Myron was united in marriage to Donna Young at her parent's home in Essex and to this union three children were born: Cathy, Jolene and Tom.

Myron farmed for his mother, Mabel, until he was called into the Army in 1954 where he served two years with the last 9 months in Korea. After his honorable discharge he worked in Essex for various businesses including Saunders Dairy, Essex Lumber, Johnson Bros Mills, he owned and operated Ross Construction and retired from the US Postal Service where he was a rural mail carrier in 1994.

Myron was a faithful member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church in Essex. He also was a volunteer fireman for many years, served on the Essex City Council and a member and Commander of the American Legion #333 where he served in the color guard at funerals and football games.

He had a passion for sports, especially football and never missed an Essex football game in over 40 years. He loved following all his children and grandchildren in all their activities and was a proud supporter and faithful follower of Essex Athletics and the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and taking each grandchild a summer camping trip. In his retirement years he took up golfing and several years were spent wintering in Texas where he made many friends.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Orpha Rose Kite, Miriam Ross at birth and brother, Raymond Ross.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna Ross of Essex; three children, Cathy (Jesse) Shane; Jolene (Brent) Younggren and Tom (Lisa) Ross all of Essex; grandchildren: Jeff Shane of Shenandoah, Jill Brdicko of LaVista, NE, Jake (Allie) Younggren of Olathe, KS, Matt (Kelsey) Younggren of Cedar Rapids, IA, Carli Ross of Council Bluffs, IA, Dylan Ross of Maryville, MO and Skylar Ross of Ankeny, IA and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother George (Catherine) Ross of Essex, IA and sisters-in-law, Mary Maher and Ruth Miller both of Red Oak, IA and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Memorials may be direct to the family.

Burial will be held at the Essex Cemetery with military rites provided by Shenandoah American Legion Post 88 and former Essex American Legion Post 333 Color Guard members.
