Myrl passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at the Nebraska Medical Center following an extended illness.
Myrl E. Shelby was born on May 20, 1933 in Albany, Missouri, the son of Thomas L. and Thelma Mae (Barnes) Shelby. Myrl passed away on September 30, 2013 at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha following a brief illness.
Myrl's early years were spent along side his twin sister Vyrl. Following the death of their mother, when the children were small, Vyrl and Myrl were loving raised by their paternal grandmother. They resided in Albany where they graduated from high school. Following graduation Myrl enlisted in the United States Army.
During his working years Myrl was a registered nurse for some 30 years, with 9 of those years working with psychiatric patients. He later went to work for McCormick and Son's Funeral Home in California until his retirement. In 2002 he returned to Southwest Iowa to be closer to his beloved sister Vyrl. He also began his career with Wal-Mart where he has been employed part-time as the store's greeter for the last 11 years.
Some of his passions included dancing, listening to old records, gardening, bird watching and having coffee with friends. He especially enjoyed ironing, even to the point of ironing his shoe strings. Myrl was a loving and compassionate gentleman and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and beloved sister Vyrl.
Myrl is survived by a host of loving co-workers, (whom he considered his family) many friends and several other relatives.
