Mildred Louise Carolyn Meyerholtz, the daughter of Carl and Signe (Oberg) Carlson was born on August 26, 1926 at Wales, Iowa. She entered into rest on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of 81 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Most of Mildred's early life was spent in the Wales area. She attended school in Wales where she graduated from Wales High School with the Class of 1944. Mildred worked as a typesetter at Murphy Calendar Co. in Red Oak, Iowa from 1944 through 1950. In 1950 she began working at Union Carbide in Red Oak until 1954.
On September 19, 1955, Mildred married the love of her life, Delbert Irving Meyerholtz, in York, Nebraska. To this union two sons, Wesley and Douglas were born. They spent their married life in Shenandoah.
Following their marriage Mildred became a homemaker and in addition held various part-time positions during this time at the Waldorf, Tall Corn Motel, Corner Caf and Nishna Valley Caf.
Mildred attended the Nazarene Church in Shenandoah for sometime. She was member of the AARP. Her two main interests were bird watching and parenting. She was a social person in her younger years, devoting time to various charities and civic activities.
Preceding Mildred in death were her parents; husband Delbert Meyerholtz; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Wayne Arnold of Red Oak, IA; and brother, Herb Carlson of Coral Gables, FL.
Survivors include her two sons, R. Wesley Meyerholtz of Shenandoah, IA and Douglas Meyerholtz and his wife Janet of Olathe, KS; brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Donna Carlson of Red Oak, IA; niece, Dorothy Arnold and nephew, Gordon Arnold, both of Red Oak, IA; other relatives and friends.
Mildred was a lighthearted person who always enjoyed a good laugh and a caring, loving individual who's sympathy was genuine. She will be missed by all of those who loved and knew her.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Rick Sleyster. Musical selections were "Blue Skies", Peace In The Valley" and "Green Sleeves". Pam Corneilson attended the memory register. Caaket bearers were Duane Moore, Tammy Moore, Marty Miller, ALbert Corneilson, John Franiuk and Bobby Franks. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
