Obituary

Michael "Mike" Allen Irvin, son of George Elton and Francis Isabelle (Roberts) Irvin, was born on December 30, 1939 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on May 3, 2019 at his home in Shenandoah at the age of 79.

Mike's early life was spent in Shenandoah. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the class of 1957. After high school he attended Iowa Western Community College. He worked as a butcher at Brannen's Grocery Store from 1956-1962. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1962. Also, in 1962 he became an field interviewer for Central Surveys. He worked his way up to Vice President before retiring in 2007.

Mike was united in marriage to Connie Marie Adams on August 14, 1971 in Coin, Iowa. They lived in Coin until 2007 when they moved to Shenandoah. Mike was a former mayor of Coin and was a member of the Coin United Methodist Church.

He was an avid reader and loved RAGBRAI trips, playing tennis and going to Iowa Hawkeye football games for 30 plus years and attended 16 bowl games.

Mike was an amazing friend and colleague. He gladly provided endless rides to Omaha for doctor appointments or to the airport for anyone in need of transportation. He loved having coffee and lunch with treasured friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Elton and Francis Irvin, sister; Delores Brooks, brothers; Gordon, Lowell and Larry Irvin, and nephew; Randy Irvin.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Connie Irvin of Shenandoah; brothers, Chuck (Joan) Irvin and Dick (JoDayle) Irvin both of Shenandoah; nieces and nephews; Julie (Joe) Denhart of Shenandoah, Jerry (Mary Jo) Josephson of Shenandoah, Terrie (Dan) Norris of Kansas City, MO, Diane (Dennis) Liljedahl of Essex, IA, Stephanie (Joe) Weaver of Omaha, NE, Amy (Al) Zimmerer of Bellevue, NE and Doug (Michelle) Irvin of Simsbury, CT; and many beloved great and grand nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Memorial visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Private family inurnment will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Public Library, Shenandoah Historical Museum or the Coin United Methodist Church.
