Hannah May (Honan) Polsley was born August 25, 1913 in Nodaway County, Missouri. She was the oldest daughter of Chester Brewer Honan and Beulah (Huff) Honan. As a young girl, she attended rural North Prairie school, and later, Blanchard High School. While in high school, she took a housekeeping job with the Doyle family in Westboro, Missouri. There, she continued to pursue her education, and graduated with the Westboro High School class of 1931.

On March 4, 1934, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gayland Dewhurst Polsley, in St. Joseph, Missouri. To the union were born three sons, Kenneth, James and Larry.

May was a lifelong member of the Blanchard United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, and helping with many church activities. Her pies and chicken casseroles were mainstays of church dinners for many years. She practiced her Christian principles throughout her life -- always ready to come to the aid of friends or family in need of help, a home cooked meal, or a shoulder to lean on.

May loved music, and as a girl she enjoyed singing with friends at school and church functions. In later years, she enjoyed listening to her children and grandchildren play the piano, and often led family singalongs on Sunday afternoons. She was an avid gardener who loved flowers, and spent many hours tending her flowers and vegetable gardens, and sharing flowers and produce with family and neighbors.

May appreciated the friendships she made in recent years at Westridge Care Center, where she entered into rest on May 21, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gayland; brothers Homer, Lee, and Byron Honan; sister Alene Ebert and brother-in-law James Campbell.

She is survived by her brother Robert (Marty) Honan of Richvale, California; sister Marjorie Campbell of Sun City, Arizona; sons Kenneth (Jean) Polsley of Blanchard, Iowa, James (Carolyn) Polsley of Branson, Missouri, and Larry Polsley of Blanchard, Iowa; grandchildren Kenneth (Sue) Polsley, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida, Kathy (Allen) Hanes of Essex, Iowa, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Bruner of Des Moines, Iowa, Caroline (William) Smith of Blanchard, Iowa, Alicia (Nathan) Crawford of New Market, Iowa, Bradley Polsley of Branson, Missouri and Andy (Bonnie) Richards of Hopkins, Missouri, fourteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

May was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt and a true friend to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Blanchard United Methodist Church.

Burial will be held at the Blanchard Cemetery in Blanchard, Iowa.
