Maxine Helene Hall, age 97, entered into eternal life on February 3,2009 at the Shenandoah Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Maxine was born on August 15, 1911 to Raymond and Alice (Witherow)Johnson in Thurman, Iowa. She attended school until the 8th grade,
where she stayed at home helping her mother with the children. She was married to Alvin M. Hall of Schubert, Nebraska on January 16, 1929.

Maxine was a devoted wife and mother. She spent her married life raising and canning fruits and vegetables along with baking and cooking for the family. The grandchildren always enjoyed their time spent on the farm with grandma and grandpa. They liked to watch grandma make cow butter by beating the jar up and down in her lap.
She also made huge loaves of white bread that were enjoyed with the large amounts of fresh butter. At one time she even helped rescue the
grandchildren from the cow lot, which was housing a mean bull, that they were unaware of.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Alvin in 1971, 4 brothers; Jack Johnson, Francis Johnson, Raymond Johnson and
Robert Johnson and a sister Lois Allen.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children; Mary Alice Starr and husband Harry of Tabor, IA, Rozella Houston and husband Raymond of Shenandoah, IA and Jim Hall and wife Gwen of Des Moines, IA; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; siblings Marguerite Carkauff of Portland, OR, Maurice Johnson and wife Sharon of Springfield, MO and William Johnson and wife Marjy of Shenandoah, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Memorial Baptist Church in Shenandoah with Rev. Gary
Fuller officiating. Carolyn Starr attended the memorial register while Jack Wilson and Al Ruhde served as ushers. Honorary ushers for the service included Gene Houston, Robert Smith, William Johnson, Richard Maynes and Jim Hall. Terry Stafford shared his talent on the
piano while Stephanie Dudley shared "Blessed Assurance" and "In The Garden". The congregation sang "I've Got A Mansion". Honorary Casket Bearers included Dennis DeWild, Rhonda Houston, Harry Starr, Jr., Gary Starr, Tina Houston, Richard Thompson, Andre Free, Dennis Hall, Teresa Hall, Lea Ann Maynes and Merrill Houston. Inurnment will be held at a
later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Memorial Baptist Church.
