Maxine Vivian Elder the daughter of Loren Thomas Pennock and Margaret Ann Lewis Pennock, was born at Ogden, Iowa on March 29, 1918 and passed away on January 25, 2006 at Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 87. Mrs. Elder spent most of her early life in Des Moines, Iowa attending and graduating from North High School in Des Moines, where she was known for her athletics. She was united in marriage to Wilson A. Elder on July 8, 1937 at Bethany, Missouri. After their marriage they resided in Des Moines, moving to Memphis, TN living there from 1950 until 1956, when they moved to Shenandoah where her husband ran an oil station. In 1971 they moved to Bettendorf, IA., moving back to Des Moines in 1974. After the death of her husband Maxine moved back to Shenandoah to be closer to family. Maxine was a loving mother, wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star. Her special interest were her children, grandchildren, sporting events. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilson, and granddaughter, Jane Kaylene Elder. Survivors include her children, Robert and wife Mary of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kaylene Dyke of Shenandoah, Iowa, and William Elder and wife Diana of Essex, Iowa; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held on Friday, January 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Mark Doland.
