Obituary

Maurice Allen Rogers, son of Willis Lloyd and Hazel L. (Griffith) Rogers, was born on November 21, 1933 in Nevada, Missouri. He passed away on Tuesday morning, March 3, 2015 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, 10 days.

His early years were spent growing up in Nevada where he attended school through the sixth grade until moving to Shenandoah, Iowa with his family. Maurice received his education in the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1951. Following graduation from high school, Maurice received his degree from the University of Missouri in 1955.

Moving back to Shenandoah, Maurice taught Algebra and American History at Shenandoah High School for a couple of years. He then worked at Jay Drug and then for Leacox Drug before becoming part-owner of Hamm-Rogers Appliance Store. He sold appliances for 15 years before becoming an at-home physical therapist for a number of people in the Shenandoah area. He completely retired in 2005

On March 17, 1984, Maurice was united in marriage to Betty Charlene Braymen at Glen Sheirbon's home in Shenandoah by Rev. Ed Cox.

In his spare time, Maurice enjoyed hunting and photography. He attended the KODAK School of Photography in Rochester, New York, where he refined his photography skills. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and pets. He was very fond of his dogs and cats.

Preceding Maurice in death were his parents and brother, Lloyd Rogers. Survivors include his wife of over 30 years, Betty Rogers of the home; children, Mike Rogers and wife Joyce of Kansas City, MO, Dennis Rogers and wife Mary Ann of Shenandoah, Curtis Rogers and wife Lisa of Viroqua, WI, Darla Davis and husband Kelly of Clarinda, IA, and raised as a son, Dustin Baker of Shenandoah; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Hansen of Atlantic, IA and Helen Hunt and husband Harry of Cathedral City, CA; brother, Don Rogers of Shenandoah; other relatives and many friends.
