Maurice G. "Maury" Reavis was born on November 10, 1927 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Galen and Pearl (Croft) Reavis. Maury entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Maury was a lifelong resident of Shenandoah, as well as a graduate of Shenandoah High School. On October 2, 1949 he was united in marriage to Velesta Brown and the couple was blessed with 59 years of marriage.

During Maury's working days he was employed by Iowa Power and Light for 37 years as a Journeyman Lineman and later as a manager. He also served on the Page County Board of Supervisors from 1985-1998. Maury was dedicated to the betterment of the community he lived and worked in, which is evident in the organizations and community groups in which he served. Maury was a member of the Elks Club, the Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce and the Optimist Club. He was a former member of the Shenandoah Board of Education and the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Board.

Maury had a deep love and devotion to his family. He enjoyed riding around town on his scooter, making his famous caramels and then sharing them with family and friends, reading, golfing, and his monthly outings to the casino with the guys.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Velesta; children, Denny Reavis and wife Jean of Des Moines, IA and Danette Castle and husband Rex of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Tammy Nelson and husband Rick, Jay Reavis, Kristen Reavis, and Erin Castle; other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
