Mary Elizabeth (Peters) Fuller, daughter of John Henry and Mayme May Waunetta (Flake) Peters, was born on November 22, 1926, in Shell City, Missouri. She passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 81.
Her early life was spent in Corning, Missouri where she grew up and received her education. Mary later spent time in Shenandoah, Iowa, and the northwest Missouri communities of Fairfax, Rock Port and Craig, before settling in Shenandoah. On February 17, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Norman H. W. Fuller in Corning, Missouri. Mary worked as a nursery laborer from 1942 through 1946 before taking time to raise her children working as a housewife from 1946 through 1955. When she resumed working outside the house she cooked at the Model Caf and Kendall's Caf. In 1968 she began cooking for the Tall Corn Motel until her retirement in 1985. Mary enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and working jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; husband, Norman; son, Bruce Fuller; and brothers, Harvey, Cliffford and Ernie Peters. Survivors include her children, Gary and Sue Fuller of Shenandoah, Larry and Marci Fuller of Thayer, MO, Lynnette Fuller of Shenandoah, Marcia and Dean Driskell of Farragut and Tim and Jan Fuller of Shenandoah; 17 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Owen Peters of Tarkio, MO; two sisters, Josephine Fuller of Liberty, MO, and Betty Jean Fox of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Ella Riley of Essex; brother-in-law, George Fuller of St. Joseph, MO; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Claude Westerfield. Vocalist, Glen Sheirbon, was accompanied by Margaret Woods. Musical selections for the service were "Beyond The Sunset" and "Softly And Tenderly". Linda Osterlink and Kathy Ann Fox attended the memory register. Ushers for the service were David Peters and Russell Peters. Caring for flowers were Jeanette Martin, Carolyn Oldham, Trisha Coffman, Becky Roberts, Robin Brannen, Tracy Coltrain, Audrey Little, JoLetta Johnson, Katie Swanson, Amy Zwickel and Shannon Taylor. Honorary casket bearers were all of Mary's close friends. Casket bearers were Greg Fuller, Joshua N. Fuller, Mark Ross, Jeremiah Fuller, Mike Driskell, Bill Fuller and Gary Driskell. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials are being directed to the family. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
