Martin Sherwood Connor was born on April 30, 1918 in Malvern, Iowa the son of John J. and Nellie (Porter) Connor. Martin entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Martin's early years were spent in southwest Iowa. He attended Tabor Country School thru the eighth grade. He graduated from Tabor High School with the Class of 1935. Martin served in the Civil Conservation Corp. from January 1938 to December of 1939. Martin served his country with pride as a soldier in the United States Army. He served in the Aleutian Islands as a cook/baker for over 225 men per meal, that was definitely no small feat! He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with a Bronze Service Star.

On September 1, 1949 he was united in marriage to Ora May Harper in Shambaugh, Iowa. Martin worked as a long haul truck driver for Schroeder Transfer in Tabor, IA from 1939 to 1941 and then as a carpenter and bricklayer in Shenandoah. Martin later operated MayCon Angus, a cattle business until the Farragut tornado forced them to move and retire.

Martin enjoyed reading, fishing, watching the news, and any sports on the television. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Pauline "Polly" Ford; brothers John "Jack" Connor, Leonard Connor and an infant brother Alton.

Those left to honor his memory include his devoted wife May of Shenandoah, his brother Howard Connor of Salem, OR; brother-in-law P.E. "Diamond" Harper of St. Joseph, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
