Obituary

Martha Rosalyn Martin, daughter of Louis Michael and Bernice (Gleason) Saner, was born on January 27, 1939 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on May 16, 2016 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was 77 years, 3 months and 19 days old.

Rosalyn grew up in Imogene, Iowa. She graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School with the class of 1957. In June of 1957 she was united in marriage to Berkly D. Martin at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene; they then moved to Shenandoah to start a family. She lived in Shenandoah until 2006 when she moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. She returned to Shenandoah in November of 2014 and was a resident at Elm Heights Care Center until her death. She considered Elm Heights Care Center her home. She left behind there many caring staff and residents that she considered family.

Rosalyn worked as a medical secretary at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital from many years. She worked for Elm Heights Care Center in the activities department until she moved to Council Bluffs after the death of her son in 2006. She then worked again as a medical secretary at Jenny Edmundson Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild. Rosalyn's favorite things included family first and foremost. She loved all music. She loved to sing and dance, play the piano and even played the accordion. She also loved all sports. She loved playing all sports in Imogene as a child and continued play recreational sports in her adult years. She attended grandchildren events. She loved people and most of all she loved to laugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Bernice Saner, husband Berkly Martin and her beloved son Michael D. Martin.

Rosalyn is survived by her daughters; Debra (Stan) Almeida of Omaha, Teresa Davis of Shenandoah and Barb Martin of Council Bluffs; grandchildren Tony (Ann) Almeida, Kate (Dan) Coil, Mitchell Almeida, Matthew McIntyre and Jamie (Zach) Smiley; six great-grandchildren; Este, Tatum and Gwen Smiley, Berk and Faye Coil and Edward Almeida; siblings Sharon (Jerry) Baldwin, Jane (Gary) Gruber and Lou (Dee) Saner all of Shenandoah and Edward (Carol) Saner of Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
