Marilyn Jean (Myers) Troxel, the daughter of John Thomas Myers and Hazel Viola Godwin Myers was born at Shenandoah, Iowa, on February 24, 1930. She entered into eternal rest on July 30, 2010 at The Ambassador Care Center at Sidney, Iowa.

Marilyn spent her early years in rural Farragut and Shenandoah, Iowa. She attended Shenandoah High School graduating with the Class of 1947. On September 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert K. Troxel at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Prior to her marriage she worked for Iowa Power. Following their marriage they lived on the family farm near Farragut where she devoted her time to her husband, family, home and the farm operations. She enjoyed photography, flower gardening, genealogy and traveling. Marilyn was a life time member of the United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She spent eight years on the Iowa Methodist Church conference as a member of the Finance and Administration Council. She also served over ten years as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Fremont County Republican Womens Organization, and the Centennial Club. She was active in 4-H all of her life and the Fremont County Historical Society, along with many other church and civic activities. Marilyn loved her family and was passionate about everything that she did in life.

Preceding Marilyn in death were her mother and father, and a brother-in-law Doyle Racine. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband Robert K. Troxel; their four children; Bill Troxel and wife Eileen of St. Paul, Minnesota and their children, Whitney and Claire Troxel; Nancy Hoegh and husband Dr. Curtis of Clive, Iowa and their children, Jake Hoegh, Matthew Hoegh and wife Kimberly, Abbie Knapp and husband Michael; Tom Troxel and wife Norma of Farragut, Iowa and their children, Andria Head and husband Clint and their children Jordan and Sydney Head, Maggie Troxel and Kimberly Troxel; Jeff Troxel and wife Teri of Crawford, Texas and their children, Kasey Troxel, Weston Troxel, and Alex Troxel; also surviving is her sister Kathy Racine of Essex, Iowa and her family; along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Farragut United Methodist Church. Words of comfort were given by Pastor Fred Bryson and Phillip Wing. A special piano solo, "Ave Maria" was performed by granddaughter Kim Troxel. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and other special music was "I Can Only Imagine". Pianist was Cindy McCall. Attending the memory register were Joyce Supernaw and Kay Wing. Caring for flowers was Mary Whitehill. Ushers were Danny Whitehill and Phillip Wing. Honorary bearers were "All of Marilyn's Friends". Casket bearers were Jacob Hoegh, Matthew Hoegh, Clint Head, Doug Racine, Dennis Racine, Curtis Anderzhon, Daniel Anderzhon and Larry Supernaw. Interment was in the Locust Grove Cemetery at rural Farragut. A memorial is being established in Marilyn's name.
