Marice Geraldine (Almquist) Young, daughter of David and Edith (Bengtson) Almquist, was born January 10, 1922 at the home of her grandparents Ludwig and Charlotte Bengtson of Essex, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 97. She had two older brothers, Elwyn and Reynold.

Marice grew up in a home where music was appreciated all her life. She sang a solo at age five on KFNF Radio and her love of music grew. Marice graduated from country school in the 8th grade and attended Essex High School where she accompanied all the musical groups and graduated as Salutatorian with the class of 1939. Marice gave piano and organ lessons at the age of 16 and became the organist at her church, Swedish Mission Church which is now Faith Covenant Church, for 75 years.

Marice was married to Robert Young on April 28, 1942 and to this union two sons were born, Steve and Larry.

Marice was a dedicated farm wife and homemaker who also enjoyed making and collecting angels and other crafts and was an excellent cook. She also enjoyed helping the church ladies aide.

Marice and Robert vacationed 17 winters in Arizona and she continued to be an organist at her Arizona church. Robert passed away October 1998 after 56 years of marriage. Her love for her sons and their wives along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Marice's faith was instilled in her at a young age and she continued to be a faithful servant her whole life.

Marice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her husband Robert.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Steve and wife Toni of Granbury, TX and Larry and wife Kelly of Essex, IA, five grandchildren Devon Vonderscher and husband Travis of Frisco, TX, Mahala Coplan and husband Cecil of Plano, TX, Toby Young and wife Lora of Remsen, IA, Andy Young of Bolton, CT and T.J.
