Obituary

Marian passed away at her home on Sunday morning, March 18, 2018 in Northboro, Iowa with her beloved family by her side.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Marian (White) Matheson daughter of John Riley and Helen Florence (Sanders) White was born on February 19, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas. Marian entered into eternal peace on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at her home in Northboro, Iowa surrounded by her loving family.

Marian's early years were spent in Kansas City, Kansas until her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1951. On September 4, 1940 she was united in marriage to Hans Fredrick Matheson. The couple made their home in Kansas City.

Marian was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to shop! Whether it be a thrift store, department store or grocery store, Marian enjoyed this fun filled hobby. She also enjoyed eating out, Hershey Chocolate and was a member of The Birthday Club. Marian was very patriotic. She raised her flag every morning and retired it every night. This daily ritual was extremely important to her. She was an avid reader and made weekly trips to the library to check out books. Many who knew Marian knew she was famous for making her Rum Cakes and Meringue Pies. Those were quite the treats. Although Marian's primary job was caring for her family, she did work at various jobs from time to time around the Kansas City area.
If there was a one of a kind mother, it was Marian. Her love and kindness to her children, brothers, sisters, extended family, friends and even strangers was unconditional. Many were touched by her generosity. Her gifts of giving at every opportunity was received with joy and smiles by those she gifted.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hans in 1985; her parents John and Helen; 6 siblings; 3 children, Patricia Matheson, Charles Matheson and Mary Ann Roebuck; and daughter-in-law Mary Matheson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children; Keith Matheson, Donna Brannen and husband Larry, David Matheson and wife Mary, Sandra Ross and husband Philip and Ronnie Matheson; 7 siblings, Kenneth, Betty, Carol, Milton, Norma, Patti and Mildred; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
